The short answer
Start with Next up on Overview. It groups the work for each quarterly update in one task and keeps optional invoice follow-up separate.
1. Read Next up on Overview
The first section shows your next update deadline from HMRC. Next up lists at most three tasks. An earlier open update stays visible when a later quarter is current. Its record checks cover its own period. If HMRC is not connected, use Connect HMRC to load your deadlines. If you are connected and see “No quarterly updates from HMRC yet”, choose Open Tax to check your filing workspace.
Open Overview2. Confirm records in Bookkeeping
Read the work listed inside the filing task. Use Confirm transactions to open the review queue. Your confirmed figures stay editable after an update is sent. Receipts are optional and never a condition for sending.
Confirm transactions3. Open the guided review
Choose Open guided review on the update task to check that business and period. The existing checks and your reviewed figures determine whether you can send. A quarterly update is a summary, not a tax bill.
Open Tax4. Keep adding records
Use Add transaction or Upload receipt in Add something. When configured, your WhatsApp number and receipt forwarding address appear there too. Open Reports for the detailed figures and Sales for invoices. Start with SimpleTaxFlow: £1 + VAT/month for 6 months, then £5 + VAT/month.
Open OverviewBefore you move on
- Check each business named in Next up
- Review the figures before sending
- Check payments separately in Tax
