MTD VAT Returns
Understand the current preview before setting up VAT.
Not yet available for live VAT filing. Check who can use the enabled preview, the intended subscriber bundle and the record → review → declaration → receipt journey.
In the enabled preview, VAT setup requires an active subscription before VAT registration. First-time subscribers start at £1 + VAT/month for six months, then renew at £5 + VAT/month or £50 + VAT/year when selected; payment starts immediately. Annual billing starts after the introduction. The introductory offer does not repeat on resubscription.

Making Tax Digital for VAT
Illustrative VAT preview
Built for useful work between tax deadlines.
Secure workspace
user-owned records
Clear next actions
without accounting jargon
Connected books
one source of truth
Ready for review
throughout the year
What you can do
A focused workspace, not another spreadsheet
Records you explicitly select
Choose the primary business and additional owned sources for this registration. Local bookkeeping or property records alone do not satisfy the business prerequisite.
Figures you can review
Resolve VAT treatments, confirm coverage, inspect nine boxes and contribution evidence, and review adjustments and warnings.
An explicit filing boundary
Read the exact declaration and submit only when ready in the enabled preview. Retain the receipt or follow protected outcome recovery.
How it works
Simple steps, clear records
The preview handles domestic standard, reduced, zero, exempt and outside-scope treatments. Flat Rate, retail and margin calculations are excluded. Specialist VAT treatment needs accountant review; import/reverse-charge coverage, spreadsheet bridging, automatic filing and VAT payments are not advertised as supported.
Records
Discover your eligible owned business, select its sources and authorise VAT separately from Income Tax.
Review
Resolve transactions and coverage, then check nine boxes, contributions and adjustments.
Declaration
Confirm the exact current declaration and choose Submit to HMRC explicitly.
Receipt
Keep the accepted receipt and history; use read-only recovery for an uncertain outcome.
VAT availability, eligibility and price
VAT filing coming soon.
VAT filing coming soon. SimpleTaxFlow’s Income Tax recognition does not establish VAT recognition. An enabled sandbox preview is not live filing.
The current preview requires an owned business discovered through Income Tax HMRC setup. VAT-only customers without that business are not supported. A landlord profile alone does not mean VAT filing is needed.
The intended VAT bundle has no additional VAT feature fee on the SimpleTaxFlow subscription. See Pricing for the current introductory offer and monthly or annual renewal, excluding VAT. Live VAT filing is not included as an available service today.
Can I file VAT today?
Live filing is not yet available. These guides explain the enabled preview and its limits so you can assess suitability.
Does Income Tax setup connect VAT?
No. VAT needs separate authorisation and an access check for the saved VAT number. Record sources must be selected explicitly.
Does the preview handle every VAT scheme?
No. Review the stated domestic calculation limits and check specialist treatment with your accountant. Read HMRC’s VAT return guidance.
